The Seven Works of Mercy is an oil painting by Caravaggio.
The painting is in the church of Pio Monte della Misericordia in Naples, Italy.
“The Seven Works of Mercy” have been immortalised by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-1610), an Italian painter of realistic Baroque tenebrism.
Master Jesus announced the ‘Seven Works of Mercy’, which are mentioned in the Gospel of St. Matthew the Evangelist.
The Seven External Works of Mercy:
Heal the sick,
Feed the hungry,
Give drink to the thirsty,
Shelter the traveler,
Clothe the naked,
Ransom the captive, and
Assist the disembodied.
The Seven Internal Works of Mercy:
Teach the ignorant,
Advise the misguided,
Correct the mistaken,
Forgive the offender,
Console the afflicted,
Transmute the faults of others, and
Pray for the living and the disembodied.
